Utilization of renewable energy

Introduction of non-fossil certificate transfer agreement(Virtual PPA)

The JACCS Group has set GHG emission reduction targets, with fiscal 2019 as the base year, and aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 by 50% and Scope 3 by 30% by fiscal 2030, with the goal of achieving Scope 1, 2, and 3 net zero by fiscal 2050.As part of these efforts, in May 2024 we signed the first virtual PPA for renewable energy electricity in the credit industry. The solar power plant constructed under this contract is expected to generate approximately 1.5 million kWh of renewable energy power per year, and a certificate of "environmental value" equivalent to this will be obtained. The annual power generation of approximately 1.5 million kWh will represent the acquisition of environmental value equivalent to approximately 25% of JACCS' total domestic annual demand of 5.92 million kWh (fiscal year 2023), and the company will promote this as a measure to utilize renewable energy.

Virtual PPA scheme

Virtual PPA

A PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) is a contractual form in which electricity consumers purchase renewable energy directly from PPA (power generation) businesses. In contrast, a virtual PPA is a means for electricity consumers to procure the environmental value of renewable energy generated at a dedicated power plant built outside the consumer's premises. JACCS contributes to the creation of clean energy by procuring "environmental value" from PPA (power generation).

Environmental value(certificate)

The "environmental value" of electricity generated from non-fossil fuel sources such as solar and wind power will be documented so that it can be bought and sold separately from the electricity.

Switching to renewable energy electricity contracts

JACCS Group is in the process of switching to renewable energy power contracts for all of its nationwide sales, inspection, and administrative offices. As of the end of fiscal year 2024, approximately 40% of its offices, including its headquarters in Ebisu Neonart Building, have completed the switch to renewable energy power contracts. For the remaining 60% of offices, we will continue to consider and adjust the switch in stages, promoting the use of clean energy and working to protect the environment.

Gifting of solar power generation facilities

As a commemorative project for the 60th anniversary of JACCS’ founding, in 2014 the Company constructed a solar power generation installation in Hakodate, Hokkaido—JACCS’ birthplace—and gifted it to Hakodate City. This project took the theme of creating an environment for the future. Adjacent to the installation gifted to the city, JACCS simultaneously built a second solar power plant, which is operated by JACCS’ subsidiary, JACCS Total Service Co., Ltd., as the power generation operator. Hence, the JACCS Group also engages in the supply of renewable energy.
